Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16

Life sometime feels like a tug-of-war between what you know is right and what your feelings, circumstances, or desires push you toward. Every day we are confronted with choices, some small, some life-changing, and the pull of the flesh can feel stronger than our willpower.

Our text this morning offers a way to live beyond reaction and impulse. Walking in the Spirit is learning to live from the life and truth of your spirit, letting God’s life guide your thoughts, words, and actions

Somebody put this in simple Morden English:

Keep walking in the Spirit so you won’t even feel the pull of the flesh.”

As a believer, walking in the spirit is essentially living from the life and truth in your spirit rather than reacting to what your senses, emotions, or the natural world tell you.

Romans 8:5 says, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

The more you keep your mind “set on the Spirit,” the less pull the flesh even registers. So, focus your thoughts on the scripture rather than circumstances.

If you are seeing the flesh rising you start declaring what your spirit knows is true -the word of God. Proverbs 18:21 shows that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Speaking God’s truth aligns your soul and body with your spirit, breaking doubt, fear, and fleshly thinking.

Emotions and sensations can lie. So you have to resist reactions based on feelings. Galatians 5:16-17 reminds us the flesh and the spirit are in conflict. When fear, anger, or anxiety rise, remind yourself of your spirit’s truth: you are righteous, complete, and victorious in Christ.

Acting according to God’s Word rather than sight is a form of walking in the Spirit. Step out in generosity, service, or obedience even when it feels unnatural. James 2:17 shows faith is completed by action. Daily replace worldly thoughts with God’s perspective (Romans 12:2). This isn’t a one-time exercise; it’s a daily habit of filtering everything you see, hear, or feel through God’s Word.

Your spirit is joined to Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). Keep your attention on what is true in your spirit rather than the temporary appearances of the world. This builds inner peace and releases God’s life through your body. Let your prayers be guided by the Spirit (Romans 8:26-27). Spirit-led prayer keeps your soul in sync with your spirit and releases God’s power into your life.

So, stop letting temporary pleasures, fear, or sinful tendencies dictate your choices. Walking in the Spirit weakens the influence of the flesh because your focus and energy are anchored in God’s life within you.

Proclaim this: Today, I choose to walk in the Spirit. I set my mind on God’s truth, not on what my feelings or circumstances say. I declare that my spirit is strong, my body and soul are aligned with God, and the pull of the flesh has no power over me. I am righteous, complete, and victorious in Christ. I walk in obedience, faith, and peace, letting God’s life flow freely through me. In Jesus’ name , Amen!
