“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” 1 Peter 1:18–19
Take a moment and let that sink in. You weren’t bought with silver or gold, with good behavior or religious effort. You were bought with something infinitely more valuable—the very blood of Jesus. That’s where your identity starts today.
Now, let’s be honest about where we were before Jesus stepped in. Scripture doesn’t sugarcoat it: we were slaves. Not the kind with chains on our wrists, but something far worse. We were bound to Satan—the wicked one—who had us trapped in a cycle of sin, sickness, sorrow, and constant failure. Ever had those nights where fear just won’t let you sleep? Or those mornings where you wake up already defeated? That’s the enemy’s handiwork. He loves to torture us with tormenting dreams, nagging problems, and that heavy sense of hopelessness. That was our address before Christ: the dark valley of tragedy.
But here’s the good news—Jesus showed up. He is our Deliverer. Not a distant religious figure, but a personal Rescuer who came to break every chain. Remember what He said? “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” And who is that Truth? Jesus Himself. He didn’t just come to give us a better philosophy; He came to liberate us from Satan’s grip, from sin’s guilt, and from sorrow’s weight. Galatians tells us He came to redeem us—to buy us back—so we could stop being slaves and start being sons and daughters. That means you can trade that dark valley for a holy mountain of triumph. Not because you’re strong enough to climb it, but because He’s strong enough to carry you there.
And that brings us to the heart of it all: you are blood-bought. First Corinthians says, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” What price? The precious blood of Jesus—the spotless Lamb. So here’s my question for you today: What are you still holding onto? Fear? Guilt? Shame? Those belong to the old you, the slave you. But the redeemed you? You’re washed clean. You’re adopted. You have full rights as a child of God.
So I want to encourage you—repent, not out of religious duty, but out of response to this incredible love. Turn away from the sin that keeps you in bondage. Let the blood wash over your past, your failures, your nightmares, and your struggles. And then, walk in the freedom of a son or daughter. No more cowering like a slave. No more fearing the dark. You’ve been rescued. You have been ransomed. You’ve been bought with the most precious currency in all of history.
Today, claim that freedom. You are no longer a slave; you are a child. And children of the King don’t live in fear; they live in victory.
