Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” 1 Cor 3:16

It is remarkable how many Christians speak about the Holy Spirit, yet few truly know Him. Too often, He is treated as an influence, an experience, or a power to be used at our convenience. But the truth is far deeper: the Holy Spirit is God Himself, fully divine, eternal, and personal, dwelling within the believer. He is not optional. He is not a supplement to our faith. He is the very presence of God in our hearts.

The Spirit can be grieved, resisted, obeyed, and honoured. He is more than a comforter; He is a governor, leading, instructing, warning, and restraining us. Without Him, Christian life becomes mere moral religion. Effort, discipline, and good intentions are not enough. Victory, holiness, guidance, and spiritual growth all depend on His active work within us.

A quiet, disciplined walk with God is the soil in which sensitivity to the Spirit grows. Yieldedness matters. The more we obey the promptings of the Spirit in alignment with the scripture, the clearer His guidance becomes. Disobedience dulls our spiritual perception, leaving us to stumble in our own strength.

Many long for the gifts, the power, the visible manifestations of the Spirit, but the first desire of the heart must be intimacy. Fellowship with Him, rooted in prayer, holiness, and reverence, comes first. All else flows from that relationship. The question is not how much of the Spirit we have, but how much of us the Spirit truly possesses.

So today, pause and reflect. Do you truly know Him, or have you settled for a distant presence? Do you honour Him with your obedience, or do you treat Him as an optional companion? The life of God is not formed by striving, but by submission. Know Him. Honour Him. Obey Him. And let Him lead you into the fullness of the life He alone can give.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Spirit dwelling within me. Teach me to know Him more intimately, to honour Him, and to yield every part of my life to His leading. May I not seek only power or blessing, but your presence and fellowship above all. Form your life within me, not by my striving, but by my submission. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
