“Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

God calls you by name, that you are his. He who formed you!

Formed. The Hebrew word is yatsar, the word of the potter. It is the same word used in Genesis when God shaped man from the dust, hands pressed into clay, breath following close behind. This is the language of proximity, of intention, of care that gets its hands dirty.

God formed you in the hidden place. Before your name was known to any other, before your face had been seen, He was already at work. Shaping. Tending. Knowing.

Psalm 139 says you were intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

“My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.” Psalm 139:15

The word suggests embroidery, the needle moving through fabric in the dark, producing a pattern that only makes sense when held up to the light. God was embroidering you before the world had seen a single thread.

Consider what this means for the parts of yourself you did not choose. Your temperament, your frame, the particular way your mind moves toward a problem. God forms with intention. Every detail was purposeful in his hands.

You were formed, one patient movement at a time, by the one who knew exactly what he was making and why.

God formed you in the secret place. What he shaped there, He calls good. Believe it. Walk in it. You are his.
