Build What Lasts

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matt 6:19–21

What are you building? This is the question that gives your movement meaning. In the Parable of the Talents, each servant was given the same amount of time to use what he had received. The hours pass, the days turn. You have twenty-four hours each day, three hundred sixty-five days each year. Yet not all work amounts to the same thing. Jesus taught us this. Some things rust. Some things rot. Some things are taken from you or simply fade from memory. But there are things that last forever—eternal things—that remain long after every worldly success has passed away.

The Bible says, “If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is” (l1 Cor 3:12–13.

Fire will test it. Fire will show what remains.

Think of your everyday choices. Every act of obedience. Every minute given to prayer. Every word spoken in love. Every time you share the Gospel. Every kindness done in the name of Jesus. These are not small footnotes to your life. They are investments in eternity. They are treasures that will never lose their worth.

You will feel the world pulling you toward what shines but does not last. Toward careers that take everything and give little in return. Toward possessions that promise fulfillment but leave you wanting. Toward the approval of others, which feels urgent today and is forgotten tomorrow.

But you were made for more than this world offers.

Remember this: Only one life, ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.

So I ask you today: If a fire passed through your life and burned away all that is temporary, leaving only what holds eternal value, what would be left?

Let your answer shape how you live.

The time you give to God’s Word—that lasts. The prayers you lift up—they last. The people you lead to Jesus—that lasts. The character Christ is shaping in you—it lasts.

This day is a gift. So is the next. Do not spend them on what will not endure.

Father, open my eyes to see what truly matters. Help me invest my time, my strength, and all you have given me in what will outlive this world. Give me the wisdom to build on the foundation of Christ, using only what will survive the fire. Let this one life count for eternity. Amen.
