Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.” Genesis 49:19

Life can hit hard. Sometimes, it feels like you’re surrounded, overwhelmed, and knocked down. But here’s the truth: you will overcome! That’s not just wishful thinking—it’s God’s promise. The Bible says, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” 1 John 5:4

Our text this morning is a brief but powerful prophecy which spoke of conflict, resilience, and ultimate victory of a tribe of Isreal. Jacob spoke this word over his son Gad, whose name means “troop” or “fortune.” He prophesied that though enemies would come against him in force, Gad wouldn’t stay down. He might be pressed, but he’d rise again—and win. That’s your story too! “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ1 Corinthians 15:57

The tribe of Gad wasn’t weak. They were warriors—fierce, fearless, and ready for battle. Men of might, whose faces were like lions, swift as gazelles.” (1 Chronicles 12:8). These were no pushovers. And yet, even they faced opposition. Being strong doesn’t exempt you from struggle. In fact, resistance often means you’re carrying something valuable. The enemy doesn’t waste time on what isn’t a threat. If you’re facing a fight, it’s because you’re significant in God’s plan.

Let’s be real: challenges will come. But hear this—you are not destined to be defeated. The battle might be fierce, but victory is certain. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” God doesn’t just see your struggle—He ensures your comeback. David faced Goliath on his path to kingship (1 Samuel 17), and Jesus and the disciple in Mark 4 encountered the storm before setting a man free. Don’t be discouraged by resistance; let it be a signpost that you are advancing God’s kingdom.

You carry purpose, and that’s exactly why opposition shows up. Evil targets good. Darkness pushes against light. But guess what? Light always wins. Jesus didn’t just die to save you—He rose to empower you. You are more than a survivor; you are a conqueror. Every setback is a setup for a greater comeback.

Maybe you’ve been hit hard—by life, by people, by circumstances you didn’t expect. You’ve felt surrounded. Outnumbered. Like Gad, it seems the troop has overcome you. But listen closely: He shall overcome at the last.” It’s not over. You’re still standing, and that means God’s not finished.

Rise up! This isn’t the time to quit. Wipe those tears. Square your shoulders. You are not fighting alone—Heaven backs you up. And you’re not just fighting for yourself. You’re breaking cycles, shifting atmospheres, and paving the way for those who come after you.

Christ has redeemed you. Not just from sin, but from every curse, every chain, every generational pattern of defeat. You are called to be a curse breaker, a victory carrier. Through Jesus, you’ve been given authority to change the narrative. What stopped others won’t stop you. Where others fell, you’ll rise.

So today, hold your head high. Opposition doesn’t define you—overcoming does. The enemy’s best shot wasn’t enough to take you out. You’re still here. Still breathing. Still believing. And if you’ll keep standing, you’ll see the victory God has promised.

Remember this: Opposition may come, but you will overcome. “For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4
