Yesterday, we discussed communicating the love of Christ through effective listening. Focused attention and genuine curiosity open the door to spiritual discernment. You might wonder, “What will God reveal? What needs might people disclose?” Remember, we operate under His authority to address these things; excluding noise and distractions (Mark 16:15–18).
One of the most foundational truths in the Christian life is this: when you belong to Jesus, you’ve been given the right to represent Him. This is spiritual authority; not something you earn, but something you receive because of your relationship with Christ.
“To all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God…” John 1:12
When Christ sent out His disciples, He said to them:
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy…” Luke 10:19
This authority is not about shouting louder, but standing in the one who sent you. Wherever you go, whether at work, at home, or in ministry; you carry heaven’s backing. You are not just present; you are positioned. Not just a believer, but a representative.
Jesus further said, “Whoever listens to you listens to Me.” He was teaching this very principle. It’s not about your personality or performance; it’s about the fact that you are sent in His name. That’s why demons obey. That’s why healing comes. Not because we are powerful in ourselves, but because we’ve been entrusted with the authority of Christ.
The devil recognises who is truly aligned with God—and who isn’t. In Acts 19, the sons of Sceva tried to cast out demons “in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches.” But they had no relationship with Jesus themselves. The evil spirit replied, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” And they were overpowered.
This is a sobering reminder: you can’t operate with borrowed authority. Power in the spirit doesn’t come from formulas; it comes from relationship and submission.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Your authority works when your heart is yielded. God isn’t looking for professionals, just those who are surrendered. You are not acting on your own; you are under assignment.
And yes, even with this authority, life will bring resistance. Paul walked in great authority and still faced trials, persecution, and hardship. Authority is not an escape from battles; it is strength for the journey.
So walk boldly today. You are not ordinary. You are not unrecognised. Heaven sees you. Hell knows you. And Christ walks with you. You’ve been given the right to represent Him. Use it faithfully, humbly, and fearlessly. Use the name of Jesus!
