When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him.” Matthew 1:24

Yesterday we reflected on how experiencing God’s manifest presence often follows prompt obedience to His leading. Today, our text show how obedience makes room for His Presence.

Reading the text a few times I began to ask myself: What if your next “yes” to God could change everything? Not just for you but for the world? As we draw near to celebrating Jesus’ birth, we see this powerful truth lived out in the life of a quiet faithful man, Joseph.

When Joseph discovered his beloved Mary was pregnant, his heart must have shattered. His plan was kind and quiet to protect her from shame while stepping aside. But God had a different universe-altering plan. In a dream, an angel brought a direct command: “Take Mary as your wife. Name the child Jesus.” This was a divine directive that required immediate courage.

Out text says that, “when Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him.” Joseph’s obedience wasn’t passive. It was potent. His “yes” did three powerful things:

  1. It provided a protective covering for Mary and the unborn Messiah, shielding them from scandal and harm
  2. It provided a legitimate name and lineage for Jesus, fulfilling prophecy
  3. It set a pattern of immediate trust that would later save his family’s life when he fled to Egypt and later settled in Nazareth, all on God’s word

Joseph didn’t debate, delay or seek a extra counsel. He woke up and he obeyed. His obedience was the runway upon which the light of the world landed safely into human history.

Just like Joseph, your obedience to God’s prompting, that nudge to forgive to serve to speak to move to wait, is never small. It is a sacred part of God’s grand story. Your immediate “yes” creates a space for God’s manifest presence to grow, not just in your life but in the lives you are called to protect and bless.

Where is God asking for your prompt trusting “yes” today? It might not come by an angel in a dream but through His Word, a prompting in prayer or a need He puts before you. Your obedience could be the very thing He uses to bring hope, protection and salvation to someone’s world.

Father, thank you for the example of Joseph, who shows us the strength and impact of a trusting heart. Give me the courage to respond with a prompt “yes” to your leading. Help me to trust that my obedience is a powerful part of your plan. As I make room for you, let your presence grow in and through my life this season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May you wake up today ready to do what He commands. May your obedience, like Joseph’s, be a shelter for miracles and a foundation for God’s glory to be revealed. Your faithful “yes” is powerful, impactful and eternally significant.
