In 100 years, we will no longer walk this earth—but that is not the end of our story. Everything you possess today—the house you’ve built, the car you’ve cherished, the things you’ve worked so hard to acquire—will one day belong to someone else. Strangers will live in the homes you once called your own. But this shouldn’t trouble us, for our true home is not here. “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands” 2 Cor 5:1. We are but pilgrims passing through, with our eyes set on a heavenly inheritance that never fades. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” Phil 3:20.

Think about it: how many of us know the names of our great-grandfathers? Most of us don’t. Yet, the value of their lives wasn’t found in their possessions but in their faith, their love, and their walk with God. It reminds us that our true legacy is not in what we leave behind on earth but in the eternal impact we make for God’s kingdom. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” Matt 6:19-20. Yes, our names may be forgotten, and our earthly deeds will fade, but in Christ, we are known forever. “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me” John 10:14. What matters is how we live for Him today.

Why spend your life chasing the fleeting things of this world—money, success, possessions—when God offers us treasures that moth and rust cannot destroy? “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” Matt 16:26. The joy of knowing Christ, the peace of His presence, and the love we share with others are the things that truly matter and will last for eternity. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” Gal 5:22-23.

So, live boldly in faith. “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” Heb 12:1-2. Pursue what brings glory to God, not just temporary satisfaction. Invest in relationships that reflect Christ’s love, store up treasures in heaven, and live with eternity in mind. Don’t wait for the end to realise this truth; embrace it now. Each day is a gift from God—“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” Psa 90:12—use it for His glory, not merely for worldly gain.

Life on earth is brief, but eternity is our true home. “For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away” James 4:14. Make your life count for Him.
