“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lam 3:22-23
Early on a misty morning, a gardener knelt beside a small, weathered pot. Inside was a single lily bulb, dormant and dry from a long season. With gentle hands, she planted it in a sunlit patch of fresh soil. She did not dig up the whole garden, nor did she fret over how it would weather the storms of the coming months. She simply watered the spot before her, trusting that with the new day’s light and care, new life would begin to stir. Her task was not the whole year’s bloom, but today’s act of faithful planting.
God offers us grace like the dawn: fresh, consistent, and perfectly timed. We are handed a gift of daily renewal. His compassion is not given in a single, overwhelming portion but is extended each morning, sufficient and tailored for what lies directly ahead.
Jesus taught us to live with this focus: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” Matt 6:34
Our assignment is simply today. We see this pattern in the wilderness, where God provided the Israelites with manna each morning, precisely enough for that day. Any attempt to stockpile it proved futile, as the excess spoiled. The instruction was clear: receive and trust today’s provision.
The apostle Paul embraced this forward-looking trust: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal” Phil 3:13-14. The past is released. Our attention belongs to the present moment and the grace that fills it.
The psalmist declares, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” Psalm 118:24. We are invited to celebrate this specific day, crafted by God’s own hand and sustained by His presence. That truth is a firm foundation for our joy.
Let this be our renewed commitment: to greet each morning with an open heart, asking for the fresh grace meant for that day alone. And then to repeat it tomorrow. For God’s great faithfulness is measured and known in the gift of each new morning.
Lord, thank you for the new mercies you have prepared for today. Help me to receive them fully and to walk in trust, one day at a time, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
