“I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.” — Psalm 119:60
“While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.”
Hebrews 3:14–17

There are three dimensions of the Christian calling: the call out of darkness into light — Salvation (1 Peter 2:9), the call to holiness — Sanctification (1 Thessalonians 4:7), and the call to service — Vocation & Mission (1 Peter 4:10). This reflects a biblical progression of how God draws, transforms, and commissions His people. But the tradition of the modern Pharisees conveniently installed layman and clergy theology. They approved the first two callings but deny the universal call to service.

Every believer has a calling over their life. God is too wise to design anything without purpose. You were created for a reason—uniquely placed within the body of Christ. As Peter reminds us, when we are diligent to make our calling and election sure, we become steadfast and less likely to stumble. “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.” 2 Peter 1:10

What does that look like, exactly? That may vary from person to person. In our last study, we discussed spiritual offices and functions, and we also touched on the importance of being equipped.

Now, let us consider God’s grace, His perfect timing, and the uniqueness of each person’s journey towards fulfilling their destiny.

You are never too young, and you are never too old, for God’s purpose to be fulfilled in your life. Fulfilment does not follow the ticking of a clock, but the turning of a season. When purpose meets obedience, destiny unfolds.

Whether you begin your journey at the break of day or in the eleventh hour, grace ensures you still receive your reward. The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard teaches us that destiny is not about how early you begin, but how aligned you are when your moment comes. Each worker fulfilled their role when they were called.

Purpose is not measured by how long you serve, but by how obedient and faithful you are in your season. Whether you discover your purpose early in life or later on, the moment you align with God’s will, you step into fulfilment.

Age, past mistakes, or lost time do not disqualify you. God’s grace redeems time, and His purpose prevails for those who are willing to say yes.

The first step towards purpose is commitment to God’s love. The journey into purpose begins not with performance, but with commitment and loyalty to God’s love. Before function comes relationship. Before calling comes obedience. Purpose is not discovered apart from the One who gives it.

There can be no true calling without relationship, and no fulfilment of purpose without a heart submitted to God’s will.

When Paul encountered the Lord on the road to Damascus, his immediate response was not ambition, but surrender:
“Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” Acts 9:6

That question wasn’t born from curiosity—it was birthed from a heart that had just come face to face with divine love and authority. His first step into purpose was a step into obedient relationship.

Too often, people seek their “assignment” without first anchoring their identity in God’s love. But it is from a place of being loved by God and loyal to His lordship that our true purpose is revealed.

Purpose is not self-made; it is God-revealed, and it unfolds as we walk closely with Him.

So, before you ask, “What is my calling?”, first ask, “Am I committed to God’s love and will?” Because when you are, that’s when clarity, direction, and destiny begin to take shape.
