In our journey of faith, we often focus on our expectations from God, boldly believing in His promises as stated in Prov 23:18 and Prov 24:14, “Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.” Yet, amidst our prayers and aspirations, it’s vital to recognise that God also has expectations of us. He desires that our lives, granted by His grace, are lived with purpose and impact.
Why has God bestowed life upon each of us? Why do we remain here among those who have gone before us? These questions prompt deep reflection on God’s purpose for our existence. Beyond mere survival, God desires our lives to be impactful—leaving a positive imprint wherever we tread. Impact involves making a difference, enriching lives, and contributing meaningfully to society, our families, and our communities.
Scripture consistently calls us to lead lives of significance. Jesus likened His disciples to salt and light (Matt 5:13-16), stressing our role in influencing and preserving the world. Like Jesus and the early apostles who stirred hearts wherever they went (Acts 14:11, Acts 16:20, Acts 17:6), we too are called to impact our world today.
Living a life of impact necessitates aligning ourselves with biblical principles. Here are seven guiding principles drawn from Scripture that empower us to make a lasting difference:
Love as a Motive:
Jesus epitomised sacrificial love throughout His ministry (Eph 5:2), deeply impacting lives through His compassion and selflessness. As His followers, we are called to love one another sincerely (1 John 4:7) and to serve others with humility (Phil 2:3-4).
Faithfulness and Diligence:
The Apostle Paul encourages us to remain steadfast and immovable in our faith, knowing that our efforts for the Lord are not in vain (1 Cor 15:58). Consistency and perseverance are crucial in making a lasting impact.
Generosity and Sharing:
Jesus taught the importance of giving and sharing from our resources (Luke 6:38, Heb 13:16). Our willingness to bless others reflects God’s generosity towards us.
Servanthood and Humility:
Jesus washed His disciples’ feet to demonstrate true servant leadership (John 13:1-17). He taught that greatness in God’s kingdom is found in humble service to others (Matt 20:26-28).
Wisdom and Discernment:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Prov 9:10), guiding us to make wise choices and discern God’s will in all circumstances (James 1:5).
Integrity and Righteousness:
Walking in integrity and righteousness honours God and fosters trustworthiness in our relationships (Prov 11:3, Psa 15:2).
Boldness and Courage:
Like the early apostles who boldly proclaimed the Gospel despite opposition (Acts 4:29-31), we are called to speak truth and stand firm in our faith (Eph 6:13).
As we reflect on these biblical principles, let us strive to lead lives of impact, following the example set by Jesus Christ. Our purpose is not merely to receive from God but to give—to positively influence those around us. May we be recognised not only for our words but for our actions, leaving a legacy of love, service, and transformation wherever we go. Let us pray that God’s grace and Spirit empower us to meet His expectations for our lives—to be true ambassadors of His kingdom, impacting our world for His glory.
