They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.” Job 5:14

A pastor once shared a story about her young daughter that was both amusing and deeply revealing. As a child, the girl loved playing hide-and-seek. But instead of running to find a proper hiding place, she would sit right in the middle of the room, close her eyes tightly, and believe she was hidden; simply because she couldn’t see anyone else. In her mind, if she saw nothing but darkness, then surely no one could see her either. Darkness, to her, meant safety.

It sounds like innocent childhood logic, but it reflects something far more serious in the adult world: the false sense of security that comes from spiritual blindness. Many today are not hiding in places of safety they’re just closing their eyes to truth. They don’t know where they are, they don’t know where they’re heading, and yet they assume all is well. Darkness becomes a refuge, not because it is safe, but because it conceals reality. But being blind to your condition is not the same as being safe from danger. In fact, it’s what makes the danger greater.

Jesus said, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22–23

Our internal clarity, our spiritual perception, is the gateway to how we live and move. When our “eye” (our perception, intention or inner clarity) is healthy, full of light, the rest of our life follows. But when it is darkened, even the light we think we have becomes a delusion, and our whole life is plunged into darkness.

Isaiah describes our state like this: “We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.” Isaiah 59:10

There is nothing more frustrating than movement without direction. You can be driven and determined—and still be going nowhere. Forwards, backwards, zigzag, in circles—it’s all motion. But without light, even progress can lead you back to the same spot. However, there is nothing more powerful than walking in the path God has ordained for you. That’s where grace flows, doors open, and peace reigns. Jeremiah declared:

O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.Jeremiah 10:23

God never intended His people to walk blindly.
Life is filled with choices—who to marry, where to live, what path to pursue. But sometimes the most dangerous choices aren’t between right and wrong. They’re between what is good and what is God. That’s why we need more than good intentions—we need divine direction.

Divine direction is not a luxury. Even with sincere hearts, we can take a wrong turn. And the longer we stay on the wrong road, the further we drift from destiny. That’s why divine direction isn’t optional—it’s essential.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Psalm 32:8

God isn’t playing hide-and-seek with His will. He’s a Father who delights in showing the way.
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’Isaiah 30:21

The Holy Spirit is your personal guide. He is more than a Comforter; He is your daily guide, gently leading you into all truth.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14

Let us not walk in darkness or rely on our own understanding, but rather seek the Lord’s direction through His word and Spirit. As Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

God’s light reveals the way we should go, and His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Today, may we commit to walking by His light, listening for His voice, and trusting that as we draw near to Him, He will guide us in truth and peace.

In His light, there is no need to stumble in confusion or fear. Instead, we can step forward boldly, knowing He directs our steps and leads us safely home.
