Glory Fire!

“And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.” Exodus 24:17

Understanding the concept of glory and fire in spiritual terms reveals profound truths about the nature of divine manifestations. In the Bible, the sight of God’s glory is often described as a devouring fire, illustrating the consuming and transformative power of His presence.

Our text revealed God’s glory as a devouring fire on the mountain, Zec 2:5 describes God as a wall of fire and the glory in the midst, Deut 4:24 refers to God as a consuming fire, and Heb 12:29 reinforces this imagery. These passages reveal the deep connection between fire and glory, highlighting the consuming, purifying, and powerful aspects of God’s presence.

To walk in this glory fire, we need to start with the impact or encounter with the Word. The Word of God is often likened to a burning fire within, capable of igniting the spirit. Jeremiah speaks of this when he says God’s word was like a fire shut up in his bones (Jer 20:9). The Word acts like a spiritual generator, producing the fire of divine insight. Just as a generator requires fuel to produce electricity, our spirits need the fresh injection of Rhema to ignite and sustain the flame.

Consistent prayer and communion with God are crucial for maintaining this spiritual fire (Lev 6:12-13). The place of prayer is often associated with fire. For instance, the events of Pentecost in Acts highlight how persistent prayer led to the appearance of tongues of fire (Acts 2:3-4). Fanning the gift of God into flame, as advised in the epistles, underscores the importance of persistent and fervent prayer (2 Tim 1:6). Spending time in prayer is like camping with Jehovah, the consuming fire (Deut 4:24). When you pray, especially in the Holy Spirit, you are essentially fanning the flames of your spiritual fire (Jude 1:20).

Authentic worship also plays a vital role. True worship is often accompanied by the manifestation of God’s glory. When the musicians and singers in 2 Chronicles lifted their voices in unified praise, the house was filled with a cloud of glory, preventing the priests from ministering. This reaction to worship shows how genuine worship invites the presence of God in a powerful way. The more you engage in sincere worship, the more you will see the manifestation of His glory in your life.

Another key aspect is prophetic impartation (2 Tim 1:6). Prophetic mantles are described as carriers of divine fire. The story of Elijah calling down fire from heaven exemplifies this. Prophets carry a fire mantle that can bring transformation, preservation, and defense. When you encounter a true prophetic ministry, it can lead to significant spiritual shifts and impartations that ignite and sustain your spiritual fire.

To practically apply these principles, maintain a daily focus on your divine purpose. Engage deeply with scripture, allowing it to ignite your spirit continually. Keep a strong, uninterrupted prayer life to stay connected with the divine fire. Engage in genuine and heartfelt worship, creating an atmosphere for God’s glory to manifest. Finally, recognise and value encounters with prophetic mantles, as these can lead to deeper spiritual growth and transformation.

Heavenly Father, Let Your Word burn within us, filling us with divine insight and passion for Your Word. Let the consuming fire of Your presence purify us, transforming us into vessels of honour. May we maintain a fervent prayer life, fanning the flames of our spiritual fire through communion with You. We ask for Your glory fire to rest upon us, consuming all that is not of You and refining us for Your kingdom work. May we carry Your fire wherever we go, shining brightly for Your glory in Jesus’ name, Amen
