The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.” Matthew 6:22-23

Yesterday, we explored what it takes to live with excellence and the profound impact it has on our lives. Excellence is not a one-time achievement but a continuous journey of growth and focus. Christ is the embodiment of divine brilliance, the perfect image of God, shining in pure, unfiltered glory. He is the source of all true light, and we, as His followers, are called to reflect that light. But the question is, how can we reflect His light in the most powerful and effective way possible?

Let us now take a deeper look into the truth of our text. Jesus is teaching us that the way we focus our attention, our thoughts, and our desires determines the quality of our lives. In Hebrews 12:2, we are urged to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith,” who is the light of the world (John 8:12). If we keep our eyes fixed on Him, the light of His presence floods every part of our being. When we are focused on God, our entire body—our thoughts, our actions, our very essence—becomes full of light. As Psalm 34:5 says, “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” There is clarity, purpose, and power in our lives when our focus is aligned with God’s will.

The single eye, the undivided heart, is the key to excellence. James 1:8 warns, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” It is not about doing everything or trying to be everything to everyone. It is about focusing on the unique calling God has placed on your life. This focus brings a divine momentum that cannot be stopped. You become like a shining beacon, your work standing out with excellence, and your influence growing stronger day by day. Philippians 3:14 asks us to “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” The distractions of this world will try to pull you in every direction, but you must learn to say no to things that take you off course. You are not called to scatter your energy in a thousand different directions; you are called to focus on what God has specifically entrusted to you.

Imagine what would happen if you chose today to be single-minded. What if you set aside all distractions and poured your energy into your purpose with passion and commitment? The results would be nothing short of extraordinary. Proverbs 4:25-27 says, “Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.” You would begin to see divine wisdom flowing through every decision you make, clarity where there was confusion, and power where there was weakness. Consistency would build momentum, and your life would become a testimony of God’s greatness.

But it all starts with your focus. The more focused you are, the stronger your impact will be, whether in business, ministry, or in your personal life. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” The Word of God is your foundation for focus. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” When you root yourself in God’s Word, He gives you the wisdom to make the right choices and the strength to stay on course. Joshua was encouraged to meditate on God’s Word day and night, for it is the key to success.

So, today, ask yourself: what is it that needs your focus? What is the one thing that, if you give your full attention to it, will unlock the next level of your excellence? It might be a relationship that needs nurturing, a business project that needs your best effort, or simply taking more time to spend with God. Whatever it is, make the decision today to focus your eyes—your heart—on that one thing. Let your life be full of light, full of clarity, and full of divine impact. When your eye is single, your whole life will shine.
