“God sets the lonely in families; He leads out the prisoners with singing.” Psalm 68:6
What a beautiful reminder of God’s heart for connection, belonging, and freedom. His design is that no one should journey through life in isolation. He places us in families—both biological and spiritual—so that we can find love, support, and purpose. It’s not just about being surrounded by people; it’s about experiencing relationships that reflect His love and nurture our calling. Yes! God’s intention is for His people to find connection, support, and purpose within family structures—whether biological or spiritual. Through Christ, we see the fulfilment of this divine plan, our adoption into the family of God.
Think about Paul and the bond he shared with Priscilla and Aquila. They weren’t just partners in ministry; they became like family, united in their purpose of advancing the gospel. God brought them together at a crucial time, allowing them to strengthen and encourage one another. Together, they made an eternal impact, showing that God’s family is about more than shared bloodlines—it’s about shared mission and love (Acts 18:1-3, Romans 16:3-4).
Then there’s Apollos, a gifted preacher who crossed paths with Priscilla and Aquila. This couple didn’t just host Apollos; they took the time to mentor him. They saw his potential and invested in his growth, equipping him to serve with even greater effectiveness in God’s kingdom. Their spiritual family connection allowed Apollos to flourish, and it’s a powerful example of how God uses relationships to shape His people for His purposes (Acts 18:24-26).
God is still doing this today. He places us in relationships that are meant to build us up, teach us, and help us fulfil His plans. Perhaps you can think of people in your life who have been like spiritual family to you. Maybe you’ve been blessed with a mentor, a friend, or even a group within your church that has walked alongside you in your journey of faith. These connections are not random; they are part of God’s loving plan.
And maybe today, He’s calling you to be that family for someone else. Is there someone who needs encouragement, guidance, or simply the assurance that they’re not alone? As you reflect on the ways God has placed you in His family, ask Him how you might extend that same love and connection to others.
Remember, God sets the lonely in families. Whether through biological ties or spiritual ones, He provides us with people who walk with us, challenge us, and cheer us on. Let’s thank Him for this beautiful gift and seek to live as His family, connected by love and united in purpose. May we all find our place in God’s family and help others find theirs.
