“Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;”
2 Corinthians 1:10
Our text this morning describes how God dealt with the Israelites. God didn’t just deliver them from Egypt; He continued to deliver them, provide for them daily, sending manna from heaven while they wandered in the wilderness (Exodus 16:4). He remained faithful, guiding them step by step, until He brought them into the Promised Land (Exodus 23:20). God’s faithfulness was evident in His daily provision and his promise to lead them into a place of rest and blessing (Exodus 23:20). No wonder they sang this: “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; the God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.”
God is our deliverer too! What an incredible truth this is! A powerful reminder of God’s unshakable faithfulness: He has delivered us, He is delivering us, and He will always deliver us! This truth stirs my heart with hope and joy, knowing that no matter what we face, God is actively at work in our lives.
Think for a moment about the deliverance God has already shown you. The greatest act of deliverance in all history is our salvation through Jesus Christ! We were once dead in sin, trapped in darkness with no way out. But in His incredible mercy, God reached down and rescued us! He brought us out of the pit, cleansed us, and gave us new life! God has done the greatest thing for us, and nothing is too great for Him!
But the story doesn’t end there. God is still at work in your life right now! Our text says, “And doth deliver.” Right this moment, He is sustaining you, strengthening you, and guiding you through every difficulty. When the weight of the world feels heavy, remember that God is your refuge and strength. He is your ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1), and He will never leave you. He’s with you, working in ways you may not even see yet, moving mountains and making a way when there seems to be no way.
And here’s the best part: He will continue to deliver you! Whatever challenges come, you can face them with full confidence that the same God who has been faithful in the past is with you now and will be with you in the future. In Romans 8:28, we’re reminded that “all things work together for good to them that love God.” That means every struggle, every trial, and every setback is working out for your ultimate good. God is using it all to mould you, strengthen you, and lead you into greater things. He will bring you through, and He will bring you out victorious!
So, if you’re facing difficulties today, don’t let them discourage you. Look up, because your deliverer is near. He has already delivered you, He is delivering you now, and He will always deliver you! You are never alone in this journey. His promises are unbreakable, and His power is unstoppable. Stand firm, knowing that God is faithful and His deliverance is certain.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being my deliverer—yesterday, today, and forever. I trust in your faithfulness. I know that you are with me in every moment, working all things for my good. Strengthen me to walk confidently in your deliverance, knowing that I am never alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
