Contemplating the Lord’s glory!
Don’t miss it. When the truth becomes real, it doesn’t look too profound. But stay with it and ponder over it to obtain its benefit.
“Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made,” (Isaiah 43:7).
According to the Bible, our purpose—the reason we are here—is for God’s glory. All things are created for God’s glory. We can see through the word of God that even nature itself glorifies God. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”
Colossians 1:16
What is it like to glorify a person or being? It is not to tell lies about him. But it is to ascribe greatness to him. We don’t try to impute to God what he does not deserve to make him bigger than He is. Certainly, we glorify God when our lives praise Him, worship Him, proclaim his greatness, and we live to accomplish His will.
Acts 17:28 states, “For in him we live, move, and have our being.” As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.”
A son of a single parent worked very hard to achieve greatness and attributed his success to his only parent. And say, “It is for you.” “You are the reason I am.” That is great. But God is more than that. We seek to reflect and declare who He is to the world. But our effort and achievement are not enough to attribute greatness to Him. It is through the knowledge of Him that we live and make him known. Seeking to know Him, we reflect Him!
The telescope doesn’t make the sun bigger than it is. It just gives us a sense of its size. Seeking to know him more and more sets the stage for His glory. Moses left the presence of God, and his face shone with the glory of God. He hasn’t done anything but absorbed the presence of God. I am not talking about more effort but gazing at His beauty. Seeking his glory and glorifying Him are two different things. The sovereignty of God, his majesty, and his infinite value can only be explained in terms of glory. Time and space cannot put value and meaning on the existence of God, but you can. You are made to put God on display through the knowledge of Him.
Besides, our lives (our suffering, our endurance, our patience, and our joy) only make sense when we realise that everything exists for the glory of God. The three Hebrews were thrown into the fire despite their claim to the knowledge of God, but the glory of the fourth person seen in the fire put God on display. There’s a fourth man in the fire, and his name is Jesus—Immanuel, God with us.
“Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Daniel 3:25 (nkjv)
As Maria summed up, “Let’s all stay connected to the vine, for strength comes from His presence. As we dwell more in His presence, worshipping Him and feasting on His word, we will know Him more, recognise and experience His glory.”
The Bible says,
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
