“So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6
Concerning the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem, Zechariah receives a vision that involves a golden lampstand with seven lamps and two olive trees, symbolising the divine empowerment and guidance provided by the Holy Spirit. And the angel of the Lord said to him, It is not by power nor by might but by the spirit of God!
In our Christian journey, the Holy Spirit guides us between legalism and permissiveness, avoiding extremes, guilt, and condemnation versus unchecked freedom. It steers us away from extremes like excessive asceticism and hedonism, rigid dogmatism, and relativism. The Spirit encourages a path that avoids constant repentance without accountability. It helps us discern truth, navigate faith intricacies, and find balance.
The Spirit’s role is crucial, as seen in rebuilding the temple and emphasised by Paul in Galatians 5:16. “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Faith is active alignment with God’s Word, relying on His unchanging promises for strength.
God, like a supportive parent, guides us to success. Through faith in Christ, believers are freed from sin’s bondage, embracing a grace-filled life empowered by the Spirit. Mastering truth equips us to discern falsehood, similar to recognising genuine money. Faith is proactive, committing to God’s promises with confidence in His faithfulness.
