Mary was a young lady, living an ordinary life in Nazareth when heaven interrupted it. She was not famous, powerful or positioned for greatness, yet God chose her for something that would change the world.
That reminds us that our present circumstances are not a measure of our future usefulness to God. God always takes an ordinary life and accomplishes something extraordinary through it.
When Mary heard what God was asking of her, she asked: *“How shall this be?”* Luke 1:34. It was a reasonable question. What God was asking seemed impossible. God asked Mary to conceive, give birth to, and raise the promised Messiah, the Son of God, while remaining a virgin, defying both natural law and social norms.
Please notice that the angel did not tell her to try this and that. He told her: _*“The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee.”*_ Luke 1:35.
This is the key. God’s assignments come with God’s enablement. Sometimes, God will speak something into your life that is bigger than your experience, resources, or ability. Your first reaction may be, “How can this possibly happen?” But be assured, when God has genuinely spoken, your inability does not cancel his ability.
The question led to the angel saying to Mary.
_*“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”*_

Mary’s response is just as important. She said:
_*“Be it unto me according to thy word.”*_
Luke 1:38
And immediately afterwards the bible says,
“And Mary arose… with haste.”
Luke 1:39
Hearing God’s word ignited Mary’s faith, driving her to instantly rise and move forward. Faith did not leave her sitting still. There is a difference between waiting on God and delaying obedience. Sometime, we keep asking for another confirmation when God has already given us a word to obey.
Our responsibility is obedience. God’s responsibility is the outcome. Mary did not know how everything would work out. She simply trusted the God who had spoken.
Perhaps there is something God has placed before you that looks impossible. Don’t allow your circumstances to become the ceiling of what you expect from God. If he has genuinely spoken, don’t let your limitations become louder than his word.
Rise. Obey. Trust the Holy Spirit. Move forward. Do what God has asked you to do and leave what only God can do in his hands. Because with God, nothing shall be impossible.
