Justified through faith

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

Christ paid the price for our sins in full by his blood. So we received God’s forgiveness. Then something significant happened: God erased the entire record of our sins and iniquities.

Colossians 2:14 says He nailed the record of our debts to the cross. We received the ultimate blessing: “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven… whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”

The moment a person places their trust in Christ, they are justified. No guilt of sin and death, and no accusations from the Spirit of God.
Romans 8:1-2 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”

This means that when God looks at you, he doesn’t just see a forgiven criminal; he sees a beloved son or daughter wearing the royal robe of Christ’s righteousness.

The effect of this is not just relief from punishment but bold access and childlike confidence. A criminal who gets a pardon is relieved, but he still stands outside the palace gates. A son who is washed and dressed in the family’s finest robes is invited straight to the dinner table.

Wow! The knowledge of this brings overwhelming gratitude and love. When you reflect on the “divine swap” that Christ paid the price in full for your righteousness, it stirs up a “joyful desire” to live for him. Doesn’t it?

Father, thank you for the peace we have through Jesus Christ. Thank you for erasing every record against us and nailing it to the cross. We are humbled that you don’t see us as forgiven criminals but as beloved sons and daughters, clothed in Christ’s righteousness. Help us walk today in the confidence of that truth, free from condemnation, secure in your love, and seated at your table. May gratitude for this “divine swap” stir in us a joyful desire to live wholly for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
