“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?“ Luke 16:10-12 (ESV)
In these verses, Jesus talks about how being faithful in the little things paves the way for greater responsibilities and how it aligns with honouring God in our daily lives.
Stewardship is more than a financial concept; it’s a way of life rooted in recognising God as the ultimate owner of everything we have. The Bible consistently reinforces this truth, reminding us that the earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord (Psalm 24:1). Understanding this, our perspective shifts from ownership to stewardship.
Consider the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), where faithful stewards were commended for multiplying the resources entrusted to them. Likewise, our lives are filled with various resources—time, talents, finances—all gifts from God. How are we managing these gifts?
Today, let’s commit to being faithful stewards of the little things. Whether it’s taking a moment to encourage someone, wisely managing our time, or making intentional choices with our finances, each act of faithfulness is a step towards fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives.
Hebrews 13:5 encourages us to keep our lives free from the love of money, being content with what we have. Contentment and responsible stewardship go hand in hand. Let’s resist the temptation of covetousness and embrace a spirit of gratitude for the blessings, big and small, that God has entrusted to us.
Remember, as we faithfully steward what is in our hands today, God is preparing us for more significant responsibilities. May our actions today resonate with the truth that everything we have is a gift from God, and our stewardship is an act of worship.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the resources and opportunities you’ve entrusted to me. Help me to be a faithful steward in the little things, recognising that all I have belongs to you. Guide my decisions and actions today, and may they bring honour and glory to your name. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
