For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:3-4

Sonship in Christ is not merely a title—it is a transformative identity. What the law could not accomplish, God fulfilled through His Son. The law exposed sin but lacked the power to free us from it, for the weakness of the flesh stood in the way. Yet, in His love and mercy, God sent His Son—not only to pay the penalty for sin but to condemn sin in the flesh itself, breaking its power where it once reigned.

For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.Romans 6:12

Now, we are no longer left to strive under the shadow of the law or the burden of human effort. As sons and daughters of God, we are invited into a new kind of life—life according to the Spirit. The righteousness the law demanded is now fulfilled in us—not by our merit, but by our union with Christ. This new life is not a licence for passivity; it is a calling to live actively in the Spirit, grounded in the authority and identity of sonship.

Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.” Romans 6:13

The Spirit of Sonship does not lead to fear or slavery. It produces boldness, intimacy, and holiness. As sons, we rest in the assurance that we are fully accepted, deeply loved, and divinely empowered—not striving to become righteous, but walking as those in whom righteousness already dwells.

Take five minutes today to sit in stillness and declare this truth: I am a son (or daughter) of God by the Spirit—not a slave to the flesh. Let this truth anchor your heart, renew your thinking, and direct your steps.
