“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Titus 2:11-12
Our text yesterday end up in Eph 2:8-10, highlighting the grace to which we are called into sonship. The grace of God does not stop at forgiving sins; its richness is far greater than this, and its power is even stronger. God’s grace not only redeems but also calls believers into partnership with Him, enabling us to become fellow workers in His divine plan. Those who long to be right with God and accept His way of setting them right freely by His grace are equipped for this higher calling.
As it is written, “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant” Psalm 25:14. God reveals His mysteries to those who revere Him and align their hearts with His will. He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places (Eph 1:3), lavishing His grace on us in all wisdom and understanding as He makes known the mystery of His will. This mystery is not a dark riddle but a glorious revelation of His eternal plan to unite humanity with Himself. “It is given to you to know the mystery,” as Christ said.
When someone truly desires to be right with God, He begins to reveal how righteousness prevails and invites them to be part of its triumph. Jesus confirmed this closeness when He told His disciples, “I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you” John 15:15. Like Abraham, the friend of God, those who fear Him are brought into a deeper relationship, where they gain insight into His covenant and become active participants in His redemptive work.
The word “mystery” comes from a Greek term meaning to initiate or reveal an entrance. Just as nature is full of mysteries that point to the Creator, so Scripture promises pure hearts the ability to perceive eternal truths. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” Matt 5:8. Through the visible realities of time, believers are given glimpses of the unseen things prepared by God for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
In ancient times, a campaign plan was called a mystery because its success depended on sharing it with loyal collaborators. Similarly, God’s Word reveals that He entrusts His thoughts and plans to faithful individuals, making them part of what has been called “God’s march of mystery.” By involving believers in carrying out His purpose, God pours out grace far beyond mere forgiveness, equipping His people with wisdom and prudence. This wisdom allows them to discern eternal principles, while prudence helps them apply these truths to practical challenges.
The blessings of God’s grace extend even further. As the Apostle Paul writes, it is a greater blessing “to experience the powers of the age to come” Heb 6:5. This stirring of the new creation, which began with the proclamation “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3), awakens believers to their eternal destiny. God equips His people to live as citizens of His kingdom, where all things will be brought into harmony under Christ. “In Him all things hold together” Col 1:17.
Through His grace, we are invited to participate in His divine purpose, to know His mysteries, and to live in the light of His eternal plan. As we walk in the truth of His Word, may we continually be reminded that His grace equips us for a life that reflects His righteousness and love. Let us strive to live in a way that honours this calling, always seeking to grow in wisdom, understanding, and the practical application of His will.
Father, We thank you for the grace that brings salvation, for your love that has no end. Thank you for calling us into partnership with you, to be part of your divine plan and purpose. We pray that you continue to reveal your mysteries to us, to deepen our understanding of your will, and to guide us in living lives that reflect your righteousness and love. Help us to walk in wisdom and prudence, and to be faithful in our service to you. May we always seek to honour you in all that we do, knowing that in you, all things hold together.
