Pastor, I’ve frequently encountered discussions that justify human sinfulness alongside the idea of irrevocable and unconditional security of salvation. Could you clarify how we balance the assurance of salvation with the believer’s responsibility to stay vigilant and faithful in their walk with God?

Genuine assurance produces a desire to live in a way that honours God. The security of salvation should lead to a life of gratitude, obedience, and holiness, motivated by love for God rather than fear of losing salvation.

Lack of vigilance or persistent unfaithfulness might call into question the authenticity of one’s faith, not because salvation can be lost, but because true saving faith naturally results in a life that seeks to please God.

True faith will inevitably produce fruit (James 2:17). While believers are secure in Christ, this security is evidenced by their ongoing transformation and faithfulness. Thus, a lack of vigilance or persistent unfaithfulness might call into question the authenticity of one’s faith, not because salvation can be lost, but because true saving faith naturally results in a life that seeks to please God.
