Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” 1 Tim 6:6-8

These words remind us of the apostolic standard embraced by early Christians—a call to find true wealth in godliness and contentment rather than in the pursuit of earthly riches. The desire for wealth often ensnares us in foolish and harmful lusts, leading to destruction and spiritual peril. The love of money, described as a root of all kinds of evil, has caused many to forsake their faith, bringing upon themselves deep sorrow.

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Tim 6:9-10

Something rarely heard is the dangers of greed and the importance of generosity and humility. Faith is not merely wrongly taught as a spiritual force, but as spiritual energy and power. Nowadays, it is referred to as the force of faith that makes the laws of the spirit world function for the benefit of the greedy and the proud.

James 4:3 warns, You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

Today, let us embrace the apostolic motto: seek godliness, be content with what we have, and pursue treasures that endure beyond this fleeting world. In doing so, we honour God and find lasting fulfilment in His abundant grace.
