This begins with a deep understanding of who God is, as revealed in the scripture. This understanding involves grasping God’s character, attributes, and purposes as communicated through His Word. Jeremiah 9:24 emphasises the importance of boasting or finding pride in knowing and understanding God’s kindness, justice, and righteousness.
Beyond intellectual knowledge, biblical spirituality entails cultivating a personal relationship with God. This relationship involves intimacy, trust, and communion with the divine. John 17:3 teaches that eternal life is intimately tied to knowing God and Jesus Christ, whom He sent. This knowing implies a deep, personal relationship rather than mere intellectual awareness.
Proverbs 9:10 teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This fear is not about trembling in terror but rather about reverence, awe, and obedience towards God. It involves acknowledging His holiness, sovereignty, and authority. Proverbs 9:10 underscores the importance of knowing the Holy One in acquiring wisdom, indicating that true wisdom is grounded in a deep understanding of God’s character and attributes.
Spirituality is not merely about adhering to religious rituals or doctrines but about intimately knowing and relating to the revealed God. This involves understanding His character and purposes as revealed in th scripture and cultivating a personal relationship characterised by intimacy, trust, and obedience.
