“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19
Sonship is not merely about being a child of God in a sentimental way; it carries the weight of inheritance, legal standing, and shared dominion. The bible says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12
The word “right” (Greek: exousia) is better translated as authority or power. From the moment we are born again, we’re not just saved—we’re given a new status as sons with authority. This authority doesn’t come from ourselves; it flows from our union with Christ. As the Son of God, Jesus carries full authority (Matthew 28:18), and we are seated with Him.
“And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6
The original dominion given to Adam (Genesis 1:26–28) was lost through sin. But through Christ, the last Adam, we are restored to that dominion. “For if by one man’s offence death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace… will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:17
So, sonship is the reinstatement of rulership on earth under God’s authority. The Holy Spirit indwelling our spirit is the Spirit of Sonship (Galatians 4:6) and He is the source of power (Acts 1:8).
Last week, I said, as sons, we carry delegated authority. We speak the Word, cast out demons, heal the sick; not by our merit, but by sonship. Our text this morning says creation is waiting for the sons of God to manifest. This is not about titles or religious positions. It’s about manifested authority. The world is groaning for a people who know who they are, walk in intimacy with the Father, and govern their world through prayer, wisdom, and holiness.
What does it look like: speaking with spiritual authority (Luke 10:19); walking in dominion over sin, fear, and satanic forces; And representing the Father’s will on earth?
You don’t just beg God to move; you speak His will into the matter, whether you’re praying for a sick friend, taking authority over demonic interference, or declaring peace in your home. You refuse to live as a victim of temptation, anxiety, or oppression. When fear knocks, you answer with the Word. When sin tries to pull you back, you lean on the Spirit’s power to say “no” (Romans 6:14). And when spiritual opposition arises, you resist it instead of tolerating it, knowing the enemy must flee (James 4:7).
Representing the Father’s will on earth means being His ambassador in your words, actions, and decisions. You speak truth even when it’s unpopular, you love even when it’s inconvenient, and you carry God’s presence into your workplace, family, and community. People encounter His kindness, wisdom, and righteousness through you.
In short, it’s living with the awareness that you are not an ordinary person; you are a son or daughter of the King, sent to bring heaven’s culture into an earth that is groaning for His rule.
